5 home cures to help you get rid of a cough

 

 

Try any of these simple home treatments.  

 

Winter brings with it a slew of health issues, one of the most bothersome of which is coughing. Coughing incessantly not only causes discomfort but also irritates your throat tract, making swallowing harder. Other factors, such as allergies or pollutants, may contribute to this illness in addition to seasonal changes. Coughing all day is undoubtedly unpleasant, but it is totally natural because it aids in the removal of mucus, allergens, and pollutants from the airway. Coughing normally goes away on its own after a few days. However, you can relieve your pain with over-the-counter drugs or acupuncture. Here are 5 home cures to help you get rid of your cough. 

Honey :

Honey is an old cough cure that has been proven to be beneficial to one's health by science. According to a study, honey is more effective than any other over-the-counter (OTC) cough treatment. Its antioxidant, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory properties can help with sore throat alleviation. People of all ages can benefit from it. Because it can cause baby botulism in some cases, it should never be given to neonates under the age of one.  

2 tablespoons of honey in a cup of herbal tea or warm water to get the best benefits, drink it twice a day. 

  

Garlic:  

Many people avoid garlic because of its strong odor but trust us when we say that it is one of the healthiest foods you can have in your cupboard. Antiviral, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory substances can be found in garlic. Garlic can also help to decrease blood pressure and strengthen the immune system.  

Before going to bed, roast a clove of chopped garlic and eat it with a spoon of honey. You can also add chopped garlic to your food after frying it in ghee. This will help with cough alleviation and digestion. 

  

Ginger :

Ginger is a superfood that can aid with a variety of health issues, including nausea, colds, flu, and cough. This root's anti-inflammatory qualities can help to relax airway membranes and reduce coughing. According to a 2013 study, gingerol, a chemical component found in ginger, helps reduce airway hyperresponsiveness, which can cause asthma symptoms such as cough.   

One of the most effective cures for coughing is to drink warm ginger tea or ginger juice mixed with honey and black pepper powder. Avoid eating too much ginger because it can upset your stomach and induce heartburn.

Bromelain  

Bromelain, an enzyme found in pineapples, is thought to be an excellent cough treatment. According to several studies, this enzyme can assist to suppress coughs and loosen mucus in the throat. Pineapple can aid with coughing caused by sinusitis and allergy-related sinus problems. Additionally, it is sometimes used to treat inflammation and edema.  

If you have a cough, eat a slice of pineapple or drink 250 mL of fresh pineapple juice twice a day. Make sure your fruit and juice aren't too cold, as this might cause skin irritation. 

  

Turmeric :

Turmeric is a common spice in every Indian household, and it can help with a variety of health issues. Curcumin is the main ingredient in this spice, and it has antiviral, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory activities. This yellow spice has been used in Ayurvedic medicine to treat respiratory diseases for generations.  

  

Instructions: Mix 1/4 teaspoon turmeric in a glass of warm milk and consume before bedtime. 

Saltwater gargle:

Gargling is a home treatment for a sore throat that even doctors endorse. Saltwater is osmotic, which essentially means that it causes fluid movement to shift direction. It can minimize mucus build-up in the lungs and nasal canal and relieve itchy throats. It also aids in the reduction of inflammation and edema. Younger children should not use this remedy since they may not be able to gargle correctly and drink alkaline water.  

 

For rapid treatment, combine 1/4 teaspoon salt in 1 cup of warm water and gargle with it many times a day.
